On January 1, 2022 Jennett Funeral and Cremation Centre Limited is closing its operations to make room for a new funeral establishment Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices - Jennett Memorial Centre. This is an exciting change for the staff at Jennett's and we look forward to serving the Barrie community to an even greater capacity under the new brand of Basic Funerals.
We are using this page to compile some questions that clients of ours have had. If you have more questions please don't hesitate to call us.
What happened to Jennett Funeral Home? Why are you changing to Basic Funerals?
The funeral home at 152 Bradford Street will largely remain the same. Funerals will simply be under the new license “Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices – Jennett Memorial Centre”. The decision to open this new license under a new brand is to better match the changing needs of our clients and the city of Barrie. We still have the same dedicated team of funeral professionals serving the community and you can expect the same level of service we have always given.
I’ve been with Jennett’s for many years. Why are my prepaid arrangements being moved to Innisfil?
This brand change appears like a simple name change from the outside but it is a bit more complicated than that. The company you did your prearrangement with had 2 locations (Innisfil and Jennett) and now it has one location. So this is where your prearrangement now stands. However, please do not worry. You still have every option including using Innisfil Funeral Home, Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices - Jennett Memorial Centre, cancelling entirely or transferring to a different funeral home entirely.
Can’t I just leave it as it is with Jennett’s?
Yes you can. The easiest path is to do nothing because you will have the choice of using either Innisfil Funeral Home or Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices - Jennett Memorial Centre at the time of need. However, as of January 1st we can move your prearrangement to the new license to take advantage of our new pricelist and service offerings.
Can I still have a funeral?
Absolutely. As Basic Funerals we are still a fully licensed funeral establishment performing funeral services of any kind.
I live in Barrie; why would I ask my family to go to Innisfil for my funeral?
You certainly do not need to. You may call us so we can record in your file your intention to have your funeral remain at the Jennett location under the new license, or we can officially transfer your prearrangement to the new license. The choice is yours.
What does Basic mean? Do you offer only basic services?
Basic Funerals has become the larger funeral provider in Ontario through affordable prices and a simple arrangement process. Our goal is to educate you on the full range of funeral services and let you decide what is best for you and your family. A “Basic Funeral” could mean:
- A graveside service with a simpler casket.
- A memorial service with a more casual atmosphere that encourages a celebration of the life.
- A direct cremation followed by scattering the cremated remains at the lake.
- The same traditional service you expect but at a lower price.
We’ve used Jennett Funeral Home many times in the past and appreciate their high level of service. Will this change?
Our high level of traditional services will not change. Having more affordable options does not prohibit us from holding a traditional funeral with the absolute highest standards of the 20+ year funeral directors we have on staff.
If I switch my arrangements back to the new Jennett's (Basic Funerals) are they still guaranteed? Will I lose any money?
If you decide to transfer your prearrangement to Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices - Jennett Memorial Centre, your new contract with us will be guaranteed just like your previous contract. If the services you arrange for are completed at a lesser cost under the new establishment license you will get a refund for the difference at the time of need. There are no immediate refunds available for transferring prearrangements. Immediate refunds are only available if you choose to cancel your prearrangement entirely.
