Hunter, A. James
1960-2021
A magnificent man passed away on January 22, 2021, age 60. James was a wonderful husband to Georgina for 31 years, a terrific father to (late) Madeleine, Elisha and Isabel. Loving son to (late) John, and Monica, siblings to Stephen, Alison (Greg Dwyer) and Baye (John Flanagan). An adventurous uncle to Timma and Kaeli. A “big brother” to Rob Tidy and Rob Laidlaw.
James made people happy with his positive, exuberant, fun-loving nature and sense of humour. He carried his irrepressible joie de vivre everywhere. He described his profession as a computer systems analyst as akin to solving puzzles. His zest for life included a 25-month world trip/honeymoon, annual family trips, and much travel since his diagnosis.
James combined his love of the outdoors with his love for his children. Together they skied downhill and cross-country, and canoed, kayaked and hiked at their Gatineau Hills’ cottage. James cycled to work, and played indoor and beach volleyball. He possessed a powerful voice and performed in musical theatre alongside Elisha.
James received standing at the inquest of his daughter, Madeleine who died because of medical errors. He encouraged Georgina’s 14-year odyssey to educate the public and healthcare professionals to prevent adverse outcomes.
One of James’ greatest thrills was becoming a pilot. He loved flying solo to local airports. When the disease burned out his mind and body, he still enjoyed life, remaining happy and uncomplaining. It’s not good-bye, but “See you later”. Donations to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital gratefully accepted.
