It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alan Georgeson on Saturday, April 11 in Hamilton, ON. Alan passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with colon cancer with his daughters Kelly and Lesley by his side.
Alan was born on October 10, 1938 to James and Susan in Perth (Scotland), where he grew up with his sister Eileen and his brother Donald. In April 1957, Alan left Scotland for Canada aboard the Queen Mary. He first settled in Vancouver but moved all around Western Canada while working for CIBC, and in 1972 he was transferred to Southern Ontario. Most recently Alan worked for Verity International in Mississauga as a Vice President until his retirement in 2017.
Alan loved many sports, whether he was playing or cheering on his favourite teams. Most loved of all was definitely golf, and some of his greatest memories were his 2 holes-in-one. Alan liked good Scotch whisky and full roast beef dinners and enjoyed spending time with his wonderful friends.
Alan is survived by his daughters Kelly and Lesley (Roger) from his first marriage, his stepdaughter Stephanie (David), his seven grandchildren (Kirsty, Colleen, Matthew, Cole, Adam, Lucas & Ivy), his sister Eileen (David), and many other relatives both in Canada and in Scotland. He had many friends and business colleagues who will miss him as well. Alan was preceded in death by his brother Donald (survived by Elsie) and his loving wife of 28 years, Robin.
As per Alan’s request, there will be no funeral services. However, when circumstances allow, we will invite everyone to join the family to celebrate his life and share their favourite stories about him. The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and other caregivers at Juravinski Hospital who cared for Alan during his time there. Should friends desire, the family asks that in lieu of flowers that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Alan’s memory.
