With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Albert Ferguson on September 26, 2022, at 77 years of age. Surrounded by love , Albert left this physical world where his pain and suffering ceased.
Preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Mabel (nee Leonard), infant brother Len and sister Ida (John), he leaves behind his beloved sister Averil of Northern Ireland and brother-in-law John and nephew Ian from England. While Albert never had children of his own he was a cherished father figure to three step-daughters SanDee (Michel), Tanya and Shellie and a loving Grandpa to Willow. Albert leaves behind many friends in Canada and Ireland.
Born in Stewartstown, Northern Ireland, on May 18, 1945, he immigrated to Canada in 1970 and it quickly became his home. His favourite past-times included playing darts, hunting and fishing, and “shooting the shit” over a pint of beer with his many dear friends at the local legion where he was a longtime member. He loved Irish Setters and has hopefully been surrounded by his loving dogs who have patiently waited for their master to come “home”. A former soccer player, he would be glued to the TV during World Cup. He was known to spontaneously break into song and loved to listen to live music and take a twirl on the dance floor.
Despite the many painful physical aliments that plagued him in his later years, he was always grateful for the small things and never complained about how life had unfolded. He was a gracious man who made friends easily and always had a kind word for those he met.
The family wishes to thank the Palliative unit at the Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital for their care and compassion during his illness. For those who wish, donations can be made to the Bruyère Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion, Westboro Branch.
A celebration of his life will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion, Westboro Branch on October 21, 2022, between 1 and 5 PM. A committal service will take place in the spring when Albert’s ashes will be buried in the family plot in Northern Ireland.
“If there comes a day when we can no longer be together, keep me in your heart.”
