On November 8th, 2022, Alexander Beattie passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Alex was born in Toronto Ontario October 8, 1941, to James and Johanna Beattie (nee Low). Alex grew up in Mount Dennis, located in the west end of Toronto. Not one for schooling, Alex departed the academic life as soon as he possibly could and commenced his working career. His first job was with his older brother Jimmy at his garage. Alex had a wide variety of jobs but soon found his “Place”, Rowntree MacIntosh, where he spent 30 years. Soon after embarking on his professional career, Alex met the love of his life Joan. After a short romance, they soon married and began raising a family, having two boy’s, Ian and Andrew. The family settled into their residence in Richmond Hill, where they became active in the community in various capacities, always supported by Alex, whether it be through fund raising, sponsorships, the taxi service or simply being a supportive father. After settling into family life in Richmond Hill, Alex embarked on his Masonic journey, joining Willowdale Lodge 717 in March 1969. Masonry became Alex’s passion and he dedicated himself to the fraternity for over 50 years. Alex leaves behind his two son’s Ian and Andrew, a daughter in law that he adored, Shannon, and his five granddaughters who he loved immeasurably Emma, Katherine, Cecilia, Alexa and Kira. The girls broke down his crusty demeanor and made him a much softer and gentler grandfather.
A celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Thursday November 24th, 2022, at Basic Funerals - Jennett Memorial Centre, 152 Bradford Street, Barrie Ontario, from 5pm to 8pm. A masonic service will take place at 7pm. The family encourages all family and friends to witness the ceremony performed by Alex’s masonic brethren.
