On August 2, a window to a better era closed as Al passed away after a brief stay in hospital. Still incredibly vibrant at 100 years young, his sudden passing leaves a gaping hole in our hearts.
“Mac” lived an unheralded yet extraordinary life, as a Saskatchewan farm boy, teenage horse trainer on a First Nations reserve, and leader of men as a WWII RCAF pilot, sergeant and flight instructor, and eventually a 25 year foreman at GM in St. Catharines. He was also a long time Legion member and supporter. A true master of many trades, there were few things he could not build, fix or improve, teaching countless others as he went.
Ever humble, he was widely loved and universally admired for his integrity, values and unwavering willingness to help others, asking for nothing in return. His incredible work ethic, honesty and caring established a family legacy that will endure for generations to come.
Pre-deceased by wife Fern, Al is survived by sister Connie; sons Rod (Barb) and Ric (Debbie); daughter-in-law Marilyn. Beloved “Papa” to grandchildren Amy (Sebastien), Lindsay (Matt), Gavin (Heidi), Eric (Lisa) and Christine (Steve); “Great-Papa” to Abby, Ben, Will, Helene and Adele.
Honouring Dad’s wishes, in lieu of a funeral, a Celebration of Life will be held at a future time to be announced.
