Alice Shields passed away peacefully at Elginwood Long Term Care on the evening of December 19, 2021, at the age of 96.
Beloved wife of the late Al Shields, mother to Donna (Matt) Penstone and the late George Shields.
Cherished grandmother of Dave Penstone (Erin), Craig Penstone (Amy), and Corinne Penstone (Steve), and great-grandmother to Amelia, Oak, Maximus, Phaedon and Mayla.
Alice met Al Shields at Riverdale United Church, where they were married May 15, 1948. They had 30 years together before Al passed away on September 9, 1978. They were great together and so supportive of each other. It is hard to believe that Al has been gone for over 40 years.
She was very proud of her job at Quality Records.
What she was really proud of though was her family, who she adored. Alice lived with Donna, Matt and family from 1983 to 2009.
Navigating the past number of years with Alzheimer's was at times a challenge, but Alice never lost that sweet, kind and loving disposition that made her so very special her entire life. It was clear to all that she continued to enjoy her lifetime love of singing and dancing even when she could only enjoy it in her imagination.
Everyone who knew her will always remember her big smile and special twinkle in her eye.
The team at Elginwood Long Term Care were an absolute blessing over the past 12 years. Alice had the very best care possible. They loved her as family.
We know you will join the family in remembering all the wonderful, joyful times shared with Alice over the years.
She is now at peace, and in our hearts, we believe Mom is now in the loving arms of husband Al and son George.
Alice was always a big supporter of Harmonize for Speech, and in lieu of flowers, donations to H4S in her memory ( www.harmonize4speech.org ) would be appreciated by her family.
At a later date there will be a small family graveside gathering.
