Aline Mary Pottie

December 28, 1933 — February 18, 2019

Aline Mary Pottie (Cormier) passed away on Sunday, February 17 2019 after a long period of decline brought on by circulatory issues. Born in Pictou NS in 1933, she completed one year of secretarial study at Mt. St. Bernard College in Antigonish, where she subsequently met her future husband, Roswell Pottie. They were married in 1957 and together for 30 years. They raised four children, Michael, Gregory, Lisa and David. A devoted and unconditionally loving mother, she passed on her lifelong love of books, learning, and the news. All four children went on to graduate from university, three with doctorates. She spent many years working for the Canadian International Hostelling Association in Ottawa. Later in life, she was finally able to fulfill her own academic dreams by earning a BA in English from the University of Ottawa. She was a devout member of St. Joseph's Parish, serving for many years in the pastoral care ministry until no longer able to do so. Although struggling against depression for much of her life, she was welcoming of others and would attempt to help people in so far as she was able. She loved to travel but always a Nova Scotian at heart. She will be interred in Pictou on August 3. She had a wide circle of devoted friends who always appreciated her kindness and conversation.
She is survived by her siblings Helen, Adele, George, and John, her children, her former husband, her grand-daughter Olivia and her nieces and nephews who did much to brighten her later days. A funeral mass and reception will be held at St. Joseph's Church, 151 Laurier Ave. E., Saturday February 23, at 10:00 AM. Donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation may be made in lieu of flowers
