It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alla Halay, who peacefully departed on February 9, 2024, in Toronto. Born on June 12, 1936, in Mariupol, Ukraine, to Oksana Alexandra and Alex Manojlenko. She was the beloved mother of Oksana, Mykola, Ivan, and Yuri, and affectionately known as “BUSYA” to her grandchildren Natalie, Tanya, Adrienne, Philip, Nicole, Jake, Dana, and Katya, and Great Grandmother to Brooklyn, Ryan, Derek, Samara, Scarlett, Brin, and Fox.
Alla had a passion for music, blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, and was an active member of the Ukrainian Choir - Dibrova for several years. Her love for singing was matched only by her love for cooking Ukrainian dishes like a hearty borscht and delicious cabbage rolls.
Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her. At the request of the family, instead of sending flowers please consider donations to the Project Soniashnyk Fund which provides humanitarian support to children affected by the war in Ukraine.
