Anastasios Daskalopoulos

May 24, 1938 — October 26, 2024

Toronto

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anastasios Daskalopoulos, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who left us on October 26, 2024. He was a shining light in the lives of all who knew him, remembered for his incredible work ethic, unwavering bravery, and boundless love for his family.

Born on March 17, 1938 in Arnissa, Pellas, Greece, Anastasios (aka “Tom” and Taso) dedicated his life to providing for his loved ones. A self-made man, he worked tirelessly to create a better future for his family, demonstrating a commitment to hard work that inspired everyone around him. A man of many talents, he worked many jobs and was a true handyman of all trades, always ready to lend a hand and share his knowledge with others.

Thinking and planning for a better future, Anastasios convinced his wife to go to Germany for work and a better life which then led them to coming to Canada. Anastasios and Efthimia, with baby in hand, decided that Canada may not be where they wanted to settle but before leaving, they planned a “short” visit to Toronto to see a few relatives, and, as they say, the rest is history.

Anastasios had a unique ability to light up any room with his infectious smile and laughter. Anastaios was by nature a witty man with a great sense of humour; he found joy in making others laugh, often turning ordinary moments into cherished memories especially with his grandkids. His love for traditional Greek dancing brought joy to social and family gatherings, where he could often be found sharing his moves with delight, even as his mobility began to limit him later in life.

As a devoted father and grandfather, Anastasios cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, imparting wisdom, love, and laughter. His support was unwavering, always putting family first and encouraging and supporting them to pursue their dreams. Anastasios was extremely proud of his children, and the adults they have become. Although he fumbled with the grandkid's names from time to time, there was no doubt that he cherished every moment with them as they all brought him great joy.

Throughout all of his life, Anastasios faced challenges with courage and determination. He was known for sticking to his decisions, always battling hard for what he believed in and what he loved. Even in the final days with us. His generosity extended beyond his family; he was a friend to many and often offered his time and support to those in need.

Anastasios leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Efthimia of 60 yrs, his children Chris, Jim (Mary), Maria (Pat), Rina (Mike) and his grandchildren Julianna, Alexander, Abby, Anastasia, Mia, Madelyn, Marianne and Mark.

Our family would like to thank Father Fanourios Pappas for the prayers and blessings for Anastasios.
