TORONTO – Andrzej Jacek Dabrowiecki, 61, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on February 7, 2025 in Toronto.
He was born on July 2, 1963 to the late Zofia and Kajetan Dabrowiecki in Krakow, Poland, where he grew up before moving to Toronto in July 1988.
During his childhood in Poland, Andrew loved adventure and a good adrenaline rush. He was an avid and successful competitive skier and later found a love for cars and rally racing; so much so that he and his wife, Malgorzata Dabrowiecka, spent their honeymoon on a trip to a rally race.
Margaret and Andrew married in 1985 and soon after welcomed their baby boy, Kris Dabrowiecki, in March 1986. They lovingly raised Kris in Krakow before Andrew made the life changing decision to pursue new opportunities in Canada, without any English language skills and with limited resources.
Margaret and Kris joined Andrew in Toronto in July 1990 for a temporary stay that turned into building a beautiful life in their new community.
Facing many challenges, Andrew decided to enroll in college for a second time to gain new skills, which would allow him to pursue a career in engineering as a CNC Programmer.
The following years were spent enjoying many camping trips with family and friends and countless hours driving to Kris’ sporting events around Ontario and the US. Those close to him will remember his infectious energy, passion, courage, resilience, love for bright colors, dahlias, rock music, action movies, and most of all, his love for his family. He leaves many great examples and lessons of hard work, determination, and making sacrifices that allowed his family to thrive in the future.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Margaret, son Kris and wife Eliza of Marblehead, Massachusetts, his two sisters Marta and her husband Andrzej of Krakow, Anna of Krakow, his niece and nephew Malgorzata and Bartosz, and their families of Krakow.
He was the loving “Dzia Dzia” to his grandson Drew, who will proudly carry on his name.
Andrew’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Joseph’s Health Center and the Lake House Palliative Care Centre for the compassionate care he received during his battle with cancer and last moments of his life.
A Funeral Mass for Andrew will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 10am at St. Teresa’s Parish (100 10th St. Etobicoke), followed by a service at Park Lawn Cemetery at 11:45am (2845 Bloor St. W Toronto).
Dear Andrew, Dad, you will remain in our hearts, in our memories forever and we will always love you deeply.
