Angel Washington Caceres Zambrano was born February 10th, 1947 in Azogues, Ecuador. His humble upbringing made him a the disciplined and hardworking man we came to admire. Our father was a man of many trades having worked as a musician in a band, jail guard, shoemaker, firefighter and finally settling as a car detailer in Toronto. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Elvia Ramirez.
Together they migrated to Canada in the 60s in search of a better future. The trip was supposed to last one or two years, enough time to earn money and return back to Ecuador to start their family but, God had different plans. Our parents stayed in Canada for over 50 years, they ended up calling Toronto their home, a home which provided for them and blessed them with 3 children: Fernanda, Eduardo and Diana.
Our father worked relentlessly to provide for his family, in our early years he held 2-3 jobs at a time. He never took 'sick' time, long vacations or complained about the heavy work load required. He worked at the factory in the morning, delivered pizzas in the evenings and came home to sew shoes with mom. His work ethic was beyond reproach, a ruler we measure ourselves to, truly unmatched.
He loved being with his family and never missed an opportunity to spend time with friends. Known for his easy going personality, he made new friends wherever he went, his vivid imagination always brought smiles to others. He played Ecuadorian volleyball, he started in his teenage years and played until his late 50's, and even after his knees wouldn't let him play anymore, he enjoyed being in the companionship of his friends at the courts. He will always be remembered for his light hearted personality and ability to make others laugh.
Our father was the 'fun parent', he never raised his voice, never showed anger, never said no. Sometimes, he would even help us hide any outstanding evidence from mom. His parenting approach was led through dialog, no matter how awkward the situation he always wanted to talk it out.
Our father was diagnosed with Waldenström's Microglobularamenia, a slow progressing rare type of lymphoma August of 2018. He spent every year after fighting against the inevitable. In 2020 dad won the battle against prostate cancer, which provided the motivation needed to continue management of his Waldenström's.
Angel Caceres is predeceased by his wife, Elvia Caceres and is survived by his children, Fernanda, Eduardo (Joanna), Diana (Daniel) and his beautiful granddaughters Eva, Mia and Gianna.
