Anita Louise Powell

Our hearts are heavy after the peaceful passing of Anita Louise Powell (nee Doyle) on Sunday September 8, 2024 at the age of 83 at the Ottawa General Hospital. Anita was blessed to have had her daughter Kristina by her side. 

She was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on September 24, 1940 daughter to the late Nicholas Wilfred and Mary Frances (Boyce). She is predeceased by her former husband Peter J Powell as well as her siblings Mary Eleanor, Josephine Alice, Wilfred Raymond, Stanley Boyce Joseph, Kenneth Lynn, Arthur Sydney, Audrey Lorraine and Beverly Eugene.

Anita was a kind and gentle soul. A creative seamstress, she assisted with costumes for various theatre productions in the Ottawa area, as well as many Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She enjoyed oil and watercolour painting in her later years as well. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She spent many summers camping with them at Ferguson lake. Anita had a great sense of humour which continued right into her last days where she was able to share a laugh with the many visitors coming to see her.

Her faith was her strength which carried her through many challenges and even hardships but she never lost hope. She cherished Psalm 91 and knew that "under his wings she would find refuge".

She will be forever missed by her daughters Kristina and Marilyn, her grandchildren Emily and Bram, her sisters Sara Veronica, Gerarda Frances and Leola Jayne, the nieces and nephews, cousins and family in Ontario and New Brunswick, as well as the Boynton family, the Dyck family and the residents in her villa at Bruyere and many other friends.

Service to be held Saturday, September 28 at 11 am at Divine Infant Catholic Church 6658 Bilberry Drive Orleans.
