Ashlea Louise (Dawson) Grosset-Etherington

February 11, 1948 — March 19, 2021

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Ashlea (Sis). She died peacefully at home with her family at her side after a long fought battle with cancer, at the age of 73.

Ashlea leaves behind her devoted husband Andrew Etherington; her children Donna (Dwayne), Jason (Amy), Cheryl (Casey) and her stepdaughter Bryony. Ashlea loved her seven precious grandchildren Emerson, Alexis, Jakob, Ashlyn, Mackenzie, Harper and Levi. Ashlea also leaves behind her sister Margaret (Ron), and four brothers Jim (Carolyn), Donald (Barb), Rick (Elizabeth) and Kenzie (Cindy),  as well as many nieces and nephews. Also, her two furry friends, Lucie and Bella whom she loved more than anything.

Ashlea was predeceased by her parents Jim and Jean Dawson and her sister Marion.

Ashlea also leaves behind her Gloucester North Lions Club family where she was a 25 year charter member. A family where she met Andy. Her most cherished event was the Magical Village at Place D’Orleans which she designed and set up. It gave her great joy to see the reactions on the children’s faces.

We take great comfort in knowing that her pain is now gone and that she is at peace. The world did not truly lose this amazing woman as we are all blessed to have shared in so many amazing memories with her and have the stories to remind us. We will treasure her memory forever. It was an honour to have her as our mother, sister, aunt, wife, cousin, Nana, and friend. We thank her for her strength and for fighting so hard for us.

Special thanks go out to the Bytown Palliative Medical Team particularly Dr Wang and nurse Benny from Bayshore Homecare for their incredible support. As well as Dr. Fitzgibbon from The Ottawa Hospital.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date once covid restrictions allow.

Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice Care Ottawa or the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog guides program. Links can be found below.
