Barbara Doris HANMAN born June 12, 1941 died peacefully on Friday March 31,2023 surrounded by her loving family. Lovingly called “Barbie” by her pre-deceased husband of 59 years Charlie Hanman. Affectionally known as “Nanny” or “Nan” for short by her five grandchildren Alicia, Bethany and Caleb Hanman and Ryan and Graham Jones. She was plainly just known as “Mom”, by her two children Brian (Fatima) Hanman and Stephanie (Dave) Jones.
One of Barb’s most redeeming qualities was that she was one of the friendliest people you would meet, unless you were at the hockey rink and were one of the refs or visiting teams, then she got rather unpleasant. Barb was a regular at the arenas in Georgetown and was active in all levels of hockey helping in various roles. She was recognized in 2013, by the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council for her significant contributions. Barb never judged as she lived a very uncomplicated life and was that caring person whether you had seen her just yesterday or many years ago, she was a friend to all.
She was born in Georgetown to Doris and Harvey Lusty where she grew up with her older sister June (Grieg). Growing up in Georgetown she knew many people and had many friends and family where she made many memories. She worked at Smith and Stone and later became an Educational Assistant with the Halton School Board where she helped develop many children grow to become contributing members in the community.
After retirement Barb and Charlie moved to Huntsville where they enjoyed another 20 years of their cottage country life together. Barb’s life journey led her to the Mill Creek Residence in Barrie. The family would like to thank the outstanding compassion of the staff at Mill Creak Residence and in lieu of flowers would ask that any financial donation be made to the staff at Mill Creek Care Centre in memory of Barbara Hanman.
