Bernard Roy passed away on February 20th, 2025 at the age of 82. He had been at St. Vincent’s Hospital since the end of November 2024.
Bern was the loving husband of Diane and the proud father of four sons, Andre (Linda), Martin (Melanie), Michel (Vanessa) and Richard, Grandpa to Zacharie, Antoni & Zander to whom he loved to give his famous “claw”.
Bernie grew up in the flats and at the age of 19 years “moved on up” to 120 Lorne Ave. (Now 120 Upper Lorne) in 1987 the family home was torn down and Bern designed a wonderful new home for his family.
Bernard graduated from Ottawa Tech in 1960. His first professional job was with Geological Survey of Canada at 601 Booth St. From there he went on to work at Transport Canada, airports division. He was very proud of the Caribbean Airport project that he oversaw. Bern would tell you Canada covered 13 Islands and 26 Airports. The Caribbean was his favourite place to visit.
He will be missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank everyone at St. Vincent’s hospital for the kindness shown during these difficult times.
A memorial service will be held at St. Jean Baptiste Church, 96 Empress Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario on Saturday, March 8th at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers donations to St. Vincent’s Hospital, Heart Institute or Ottawa West Community Support (OWCS).
