Bernice May Lougheed (Connor)

December 18, 1922 — August 9, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice May Lougheed at Mill Creek Care Centre, Barrie on August 9th, 2024 at the age of 101. Bernice has now been received in the arms of her Lord and Saviour after a lifetime of faith and service. Wife of the late Raymond Lougheed and much-loved mother and stepmother of Doug (Bernadette) Lougheed, Linda Stanczak (Ray) and the late Bob Lougheed (Jane). Grandmother of Ben, Holly, Kirby and Colin Stanczak. Dear Sister of Hazel Sweet of Stouffville, ON. Predeceased by her parents Otto and Edna Connor, and her siblings, Rolf, Roberta, Fred and Francis.

Bernice was born on a stormy winter day on the Saskatchewan prairie on December 18, 1922. She lived on the prairie farm at Vantage, SK and later the family farm in northern Saskatchewan at Smeaton during the depression years. At age 16 she moved to Aurora to live with her grandmother and younger sister Hazel. After attending the Toronto Business College, she had accounting related jobs in Acton, Georgetown, Aurora and Newmarket before finally landing in Barrie working at Barrie Hydro. It was in Barrie in 1953 she met a local farmer, Ray Lougheed, who was recently widowed with a young son Bobby. Ray and Bernice were married in 1954. Bobby was soon joined by his little brother and sister, Doug & Linda. Bernice was instrumental in keeping the Lougheed farm operating for 20 years after Ray was tragically killed in an auto accident in 1972 and lived on the Lougheed Homestead at Holly (Mapleview Drive West and Essa Road) for over 50 years before relocating to Tollendale Village, Allandale Station, and Mill Creek Care Centre. Bernice lived a long and incredible life, meeting many friends along the way. Bernice was a quiet and caring person who embraced her Christian faith to the end of her life.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the incredible staff at Mill Creek Care Centre for their assistance, thoughtfulness and the care provided to Bernice during her final years. She was active to her final days and frequently talked about how good the MCCC staff were.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with her wishes there will be no formal funeral service with a private family internment at Thornton Cemetery in the fall.
