On Saturday, February 6th, 2021, Brenda Worthing-Jones, wife, mother, friend, teacher and inspiration to everyone who met her passed away, surrounded by family, at the age of 76. Brenda will be forever remembered by her husband of 45 years, Glyn, her children, Peter (Marcela), Geoff (Kim), Brad (Katie), and her step-daughter Tracy (Mitch). Brenda will also be sorely missed by her eight grandchildren, Ella, Lucas, Louis, Maya, Justin, Ashley, Nicholas & Noah, by sister-in-law Mary Barnes and nephews Jon and Tony Barnes. Brenda was predeceased by her brother Terry Barnes.
Brenda was born in Romford, UK in the county of Essex, second child of the late Leonard and Mary Barnes. She attended Romford County High and emigrated to Canada in 1966 where she earned a Masters in Education from the University of Ottawa. She worked as a guidance counsellor and teacher in the OCDSB until her retirement.
Brenda’s fondest memories include family trips to Florida, surfing the ocean waves and any time spent in the sun, but particularly while on a hot beach. She could be frequently found boating up and down the Ottawa River with Glyn & friends, or lounging in a pool, as long as it was heated. Her passion for gardening was contagious and her flowers always immaculate, particularly her orchids. She loved playing tennis, but loved her time with her tennis friends more.
Brenda’s lifelong love of music & singing led her to join the Ottawa Carleton Choristers where she enjoyed many years of concerts, rehearsals and life-long friendships. Brenda took great pride in helping others and is fondly remembered for her teaching and counselling work as well as her volunteer work at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice.
A celebration of Brenda’s life is postponed until this summer, when, hopefully, Covid-19 will no longer pose a health risk.
