Many people knew Brian Armstrong as a retired lawyer and a bird patrolling veteran who would go out every morning during spring and fall, in Toronto, for over 22 years, looking for birds that had collided with buildings. He was a familiar figure with patrollers and building staff alike during his pre-dawn patrols, and was often handed birds that had been found overnight by security staff. During this time, he rescued countless birds, and documented thousands of window collisions, with many of his collision reports vital in several of the massive retrofits downtown.
Brian was a former marathon runner and an avid cyclist, often cycling all over the city and across the province, including his patrolling route downtown. Unfortunately, he was involved in a cycling accident, and we are extremely saddened to say he passed away as a result.
The Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP) Canada is honouring Brian's passion and commitment to bird rescue by dedicating this fall season of patrolling to his memory. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to FLAP in Brian's name.
