Brian Rea "Douglas" McMillan

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brian Rea "Douglas" McMillan on April 16, 2025, at the age of 72 in Ottawa, after a long and courageous battle following surgery.

Doug, as he was known to many, was a proud lifelong resident of Ottawa. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Carol (Adams) McMillan, and their children: Phil (Nicole), Jeff (Taylor), and Cassie. He was a cherished grandfather to Alexander and Charlotte. Doug is also survived by his siblings Sandy, Christine, Timothy, Neil, Robert, Jason, and Christopher.

Doug will be remembered for his boundless love of hockey—especially his Ottawa 67’s. He could rattle off hockey stats like a walking encyclopedia, right up until the very end. His loyalty to the game was rivaled only by his unique taste in coffee, and his sense of adventure that often saw him hopping on a bus in search of a new golf shirt or a hockey team baseball cap.

He always had time to talk to people—whether it was the greeter at Walmart, someone at church, or a fellow passenger on the bus. Doug never met a stranger he couldn’t connect with, and his easygoing conversations often left people smiling.

He was a character in the best sense—witty, stubborn, and loyal, with an endless supply of stories and random facts he loved to share, many of which will be fondly remembered for years to come.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory can be made to The War Amps, a cause close to the family’s heart.
