Carol Ann Telik (nee Roy) passed quietly in her sleep on August 28, 2022, at the age of 82. She will be missed tremendously by her loving husband of 58 years, Tony, her two daughters, Tracey and Lori (Elbey) Storey and her grandson, Jeremy. Predeceased by her older brother Peter (Shirley) Roy, she is survived by her younger brother, Michael (the late Penny) Roy.
Carol graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital’s Nursing Program in 1962 and shortly after joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) as a Nursing Sister. It was at RCAF St. Jean where she met her future husband, also a member of the RCAF. Carol spent over 40 years caring for her patients, her specialty being high risk labour and delivery. Her own grandson is among the many who are here today, because of her. She was known to her family as Super Nurse so it was no surprise to them when one of her patients asked if she would accompany them from Ottawa to Istanbul. Carol always went the extra mile, for everyone.
Carol always saw the good in people. Her kindness and generosity were evident as soon as you spent time with her. Carol was famous among friends and family for her parties and events; her Red & White Canada Day parties are still talked about today, her bridge parties were legendary. She remembered everyone’s birthday, anniversary and special occasion. She knew your favourite food, colour, song. She made you feel special. No one knew Carol “casually”. She was your best friend, your other mother, the grandmother you wished you were related to. The void left by her loss is immeasurable, she held us all together.
Carol was an avid golfer, a member of Hylands Golf Club for over 30 years. You could always count on her to have mini Mars Bars at the 7th hole. A passionate knitter, Carol outfitted everyone with her coveted sweaters, mittens and hats.
Our deepest thanks and appreciation to the staff at St Patrick’s who took such great care of Carol; Dr Fung, Abigail, Milo, Shawleen, Kathleen, Robert, Liling, Emma, Sally. In lieu of flowers a donation in Carol’s name can be made to the St. Patrick’s Home of Ottawa Foundation.
When asked what she would like as a gift, Carol would say “just a kind word”. A memorial honouring Carol’s life is being planned for the spring and her friends, family and adopted family are all welcome to come share a kind word about her.
