Carsten Simon MacKay, age 87, passed away peacefully at his friend’s home in Brampton, Ontario on May 6, 2023, with his daughter Deborah and her husband Rick as well as Rita by his side.

Born in Prince Edward Island on September 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Howard and Laura (Finlayson) MacKay. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by son Kevin Vernon Mackay, siblings: Lorne, Miriam, Vernon, Earl, Jean, Della and Sterling.

Carsten has spent most of his years in Brampton, Ontario but his heart was always in Prince Edward Island. He was a Navy Veteran and a career as a small engine repair guy and over 50 years of active service for the Legion Branch 582 in Mississauga.

He is survived by his children Deborah (Rick), Steven, Larry, Morris, Lisa, Cathy, Brenda (Sam) and Earl (Franca). Grandchildren: Bradley, Marcus, Jason, Steven Jr. Kevin, Sheldon, Christopher, Nicholas, Devon, Jennifer, Shannon, Chantel, Michelle, Eric and Myles. Carsten was also a great grandfather to many.

Thank you to his extended family and close friends for the visits and the wonderful messages and flowers.

I would also like to thank the Legion members for being so supportive and the most compassionate people, who have always been there for him. Also thank you to Randy, Thea, Matt and Sheldon for being there in his time of needs.

A special thank you to Rita McGregor, you have been an angel that went above and beyond what you had to do as a friend.

A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 582, 456 Hensall Circle, Mississauga, ON at 10 am on Saturday May 20th, then a gathering at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery 737 Dundas Street East, Mississauga, ON. Then we will return to the Legion for a luncheon.

Dad would have preferred a donation directly to the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 582 (his second home) either by cheque or money order in place of flowers. With comments in honour of Carsten MacKay directly to his branch at address above.
