Charles Patrick Mulhern

September 25, 1925 — January 7, 2021

Charles Patrick Mulhern born September 25, 1925 in Cornwall, Ontario passed away peacefully in his home on January 7, 2021 in Mississauga, Ontario after a long and fulfilling life.

Loving and caring husband to Louise Jessie Sheppard. Proud and loving father and father-in-law to Carolyn (Allan Larden); Richard (Susan Nowak), Patrick (Greg) (Jane-Ann Newson), David, and Edward (Ted) (Patricia Herrbach). A devoted and supportive grandfather "Pop" to 12 grandchildren: James (partner Jessica), Geoffrey, Sarah, Eric, Charlie, Lauren, Matthew, Natalie, Brittney, Kevin, Julia, and Ryan and his 2 great-grandchildren Otis and Mildred Louise.

Charles was the last of the Cornwall Mulhern family that had resided there for many years. His father, Maurice Mulhern drowned when Charles was only 4 years old, leaving his mother, Mae Mulhern (nee Boyd) a widow with 4 young children: Robert, Katherine, Charles, and Boyd. All his siblings have pre-deceased him.

In October of 1943 at the age of 18, Charles answered the call of duty to World War II and joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on the HMCS Asbestos.

After the war, Charles went to Carleton University and graduated with a degree in commerce. Shortly after graduating, he went to work for Zellers Department Stores where for 4 decades, he helped develop over 250 stores across Canada. While he was living in Edmonton, he met Louise Sheppard, who, after knowing each other for only a few months, would become his wife on February 25, 1953. Their five children were each born in different Canadian cities as he worked his way up the corporate ladder at Zellers.

Charles and Louise and their ever-growing family enjoyed cottage life at Kilkenny Bay, Lac de l'Achigan, in the Laurentians where they had many wonderful friends and happy memories.

Charles was an extremely kind, caring, and gentle man and will be missed fondly and forever.

Donations to Operation Smile Canada in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated. A celebration of Charles' life will be held at a later date.
