Charles Millidge Ruttan, youngest child of Colonel Charles Millidge Ruttan and Frances Jane Ruttan (nee Wood). Born in Winnipeg, Chuck grew up in Toronto. In 1941, he volunteered to serve in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps until the end of the war. Early in his career, he worked in his father’s bakery supply business. He spent the bulk of his career in real estate and later in sports association management.
Chuck married Betty (nee Bywater) in 1954 who sadly died in 1967. They had two children Elizabeth (Chris Piper) and Charles (Laurie Ruttan). In 1971 he married Geddis Gibb (nee Hall). Joining the family was her daughter Shelly (Doug Jamieson). Chuck was very proud of all three of his children and his five grandchildren – Heather and Michael Jamieson, Jennifer (Kyouhei Yoshino), Andrew and Matthew Ruttan.
As the youngest of four siblings, Chuck enjoyed relationships with his nieces and nephews throughout his life. Chuck was an avid golfer (Bayview Golf & Country Club, York Downs Golf & Country Club) and when winter came, an ardent curler (Granite Club).
After the turn of the century, Chuck was exhibiting signs of dementia but was able to be at home with Geddis until 2011 when he moved to Bloomington Cove in Stouffville. He received excellent care there from an affectionate team, including private caregiver Jane, for which the family is very thankful.
Thank you, Chuck, for all the love and laughter.
Donations to Dash to Defeat Dementia, c/o Sunnybrook Foundation appreciated. Covid prevents us from gathering at this time.
