It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles "Charlie" van Vliet , who left us on February 5th 2025 at the age of 76. Born in Deventer in the Netherlands, he grew up in Terneuzen where he attended high school and later studied at IVA Business School in Driebergen.
As a young adult, Charlie was active in Terneuzen's night live and worked for Frank Koulen and Maya Lemmen at the international Jazz establishment of Porky and Bess. He joined the rock band the Hitch Hikers as base player.
At 21 he was invited by Oom Jaap and Tante Annie to spend a year in Canada.
He immigrated to Montréal, Canada in 1969 to live with the van Vliet family as one of their own
In pursuit of new opportunities Charlie moved to Toronto and started his career in the car rental and leasing business. He founded the EurAm leasing company and always hardworking and respected professional, known for his keen knowledge, problem- solving skills, and commitment to excellence.
Charlie was very social, hospitable and a caring person for family and friends on both sides of the ocean especially when it came to airport pick ups
Survived by his two children, Yvonne (John) and Kristian, two brothers Albert (Alfredo) (Toronto), Peter (The Netherlands) and sister Edith (The Netherlands). Opa to Johnny
