HANMAN, Charles Alexander - We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Charlie Hanman on Saturday January 2nd, 2021 in his 82nd year. Loving husband to his wife of 58 years Barbara Hanman, father of his two loving children Brian Hanman (Fatima) and granddaughters Alicia, Bethany and grandson Caleb and his sister Samantha. He is also dearly loved by his daughter Stephanie Jones (Dave) and their two sons Ryan and Graham Jones. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Harry and Mildred Hanman and is survived by his sister Ellen Morningstar and her three children; Larry (Donna) Orth, David Orth, and Michelle (Jimmy) D’Amelio. Deeply remembered by sister in-law, June Greig (George) and uncle to Bill, Don, Linda, and Sheryl. Charlie was a local well-known electrician who operated his company, Charlie Hanman Electric in Georgetown, and Halton Hills area where he made many special bonds and relationships throughout his career. He will be especially remembered for his daily meetings at the local coffee shop to chat about the news, events, and every sport imaginable. Charlie was a lifelong enthusiast of hockey and developing young players in their passion for the sport. In 2005, Charlie was the proud recipient of the Halton Hills Hockey Heritage Award that recognized his contributions and achievements for his dedication to the hockey community. Post retirement, he continued this passion in Huntsville where he became part of the coaching staff of the Huntsville Junior A Otters. He will always be remembered by all those who he impacted during his time in Huntsville and Georgetown. As obsessive and passionate as he was for sports, Charlie continued his dedication after hockey to helping others by joining a sports medicine clinic in Huntsville, where he supported a Canadian athlete in her quest for a gold medal for Canada. He was proud to be Canadian and spent many hours cheering on Canadian athletes, his Toronto Maple Leafs, Jays, Raptors and quite frankly anything on TV that involved sports. His favourite saying with his grandson was, “I didn’t come here to finish second.” Charlie made many friends in his home Province of Nova Scotia where he would always return with his family to visit with family and friends. He was very fond of his time back home and would often recall stories of his youth. He will be fondly remembered by his family for his thoughtfulness and caring ways and his love for his children and grandchildren. We will miss our Poppy, affectionally known as “Pop” for short. We will miss his passion for reading and becoming knowledgeable in many aspects of life that illustrate his more unsuspecting scholarly knowledge. We will miss seeing him disappear early in the morning in his kayak for his daily paddle which is how he became affectionally known as “Paddles” and his love for outdoors and his respect for the environment and its’ wonders. One memory that will be cherished forever was his craft for carving and his trademark, The Starving Moose walking canes, may they live on forever. The family would like to thank the following for all their assistance though this difficult time; Huntsville Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital (Toronto) Royal Victoria Hospital (Barrie) and all the staff at Roberta Place Lodge (Barrie). Cards of condolences can be sent to Barbara Hanman 489 Essa Road, Barrie, Ontario, Suite 422, L4N 8J5. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Charlie Hanman. A celebration of life will be held in Georgetown when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
