It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that the family of Christopher Serjeant announce his passing after a two year illness on September 26, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, of 53 years. We were so fortunate and proud to call him a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend and neighbour - he truly meant so much to so many.
Chris was born and grew up in St.John’s, Newfoundland but settled in Ontario where he and his wife raised a family that loved him more than words could ever express. His career led him to travel and meet so many interesting people that became colourful stories and jokes that he used to entertain us all through the years. He loved life and was fun and fun-loving. He enjoyed get-togethers with good food and great company where he would be the “life of the party” - adding yet another funny memory to our collections.
His massive heart, selfless nature and his faith led him to become involved in his church: sing in the choir, deliver readings as a lector and to join the Knights of Columbus where he served as a Grand Knight for the John F. Kennedy Council. He participated in various degree teams and spent countless volunteer hours for his community where many meaningful friendships were formed.
Chris expressed how much he appreciated his relationships by being a supportive person and would spend hours talking to his family and friends on the phone, so they knew, no matter what they were going through, he was there for them.
We will greatly miss his nurturing nature, amazing intellect, insight and wisdom, along with an incredible memory, positive spirit, unwavering optimism and infectious smile. He was a true gentleman in the way he carried himself but particularly in the way he treated others.
Chris would not want to be remembered with a tear but a smile as that was what he always wanted to draw out of us.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass to be held at Saints Martha and Mary Catholic Church - 1870 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E, Mississauga, Ontario on Saturday, November 18th at 2pm. A small reception will follow the mass at this location.
