Ottawa

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father and husband Clyde George Wadden. After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s, Clyde died peacefully at Extendicare LaurierManor on August 18th, 2024. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be taken home to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia as per his wishes.

Clyde is preceded in death by his mother Mildred Wadden (nee Morrison), his father Carl Wadden and his two brothers Fred and Ray.

Clyde was born on January 25th, 1936. After a childhood on the Mira River, he graduated from Mount Allison University with a degree in electrical engineering and then received a master’s in applied mathematics from Nova Scotia Tech. He married his childhood sweetheart, Hazel on May 9th, 1959, and spent some time in the Air Force as a flight officer and navigator before finally settling down in Ottawa to raise his family. Here he had a 30-year career in the defence industry working for General Dynamics Canada.

Clyde was an outstanding member of his community, a deacon in his church, a loving father and a caring grandfather. He will never be forgotten by all who knew and loved him.

Clyde is survived in life by his wife, Hazel Wadden (nee Wagner), his children Roberta (Gary), Karen, David and Andrew (Terry), his grandchildren Brandon (Rebecca), Matthew (Kristal), Lindsay (Joe), Amy (Cody), Bailey and Jacob, as well as his three great granddaughters Stella, Wren and Sienna. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his surviving sister Gloria Jensen (nee Wadden) and her immediate family as well as many other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Laurier Manor for the kindness and compassion provided to Clyde during the time he was in their care.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday August 29th at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church, 325 Sandhill Rd, Kanata Ontario.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you provide a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
