February 22, 1951 — November 2, 2024

Ottawa

Colleen Gallagher (nee Kingston) passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 73. She is predeceased by her parents Robert and Alice, her brother John and her son Frank. She is survived by her children Kathleen (Paul), Michèle (Benoit) and Patrick (Roxanne), her grandchildren Adrien, Dylan, Adam, Nicolas, Megan and Alissa, her siblings Robert (Mary), Joan (late Mark) and Diane (John), and her former spouse Bruce. She will be deeply missed by her many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Before becoming a devoted mother, Colleen graduated from the University of Ottawa and pursued her passion for education for many years. Following the arrival of her children, she faced the challenges of living with multiple sclerosis but never allowed this condition to define her or diminish her spirit. Her strength and resilience served as an inspiration to those around her, especially her children.

Colleen was known for her quick wit and had a remarkable talent for storytelling, often sharing family tales that brought laughter and warmth to gatherings. Her infectious laugh could light up any room, and she had a unique ability to make everyone feel at ease. Colleen made friends wherever she went, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

She was also a gifted quilter, creating beautiful, intricate quilts that she lovingly gifted to family and friends. Many of us will cherish her quilts forever, as they are not just pieces of art but tangible memories of her love and creativity.

In addition to her quilting, Colleen was an excellent baker and a passionate gardener. She found joy in nurturing both her plants and the people around her. A true animal lover, she had many beloved cats and dogs over the years, each one a loyal companion in her life, most notably Questa, Scout and Breeze.

Some of Colleen's most treasured memories were made at her cottage in Barry's Bay, where she enjoyed seeing her children grow and flourish, surrounded by nature. Colleen found her greatest happiness and pride in her children and grandchildren. They were her most cherished blessings.

Colleen will be remembered for her warmth and generous spirit, which touched the lives of everyone she met.

A funeral ceremony will be held on November 15, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., at Holy Cross Parish, 685 Walkley Road, Ottawa, Ontario, K1V 6R8. A reception will follow in the church’s hall.

The family would like to thank the staff at the May Court Hospice for their dedicated care and kindness to Colleen during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the May Court Hospice.
