Dagmar Pstross, who was born on September 28, 1944, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 7, 2023. She will be missed dearly by her son Tomas, daughter-in-law Karen and grandchildren Logan & Abigail as well as her nephews Hana, Vlasta and Petr.
Growing up alongside her beloved brother, Petr Kornoušek, she cherished the bonds of family and the warmth of their shared experiences. Dagmar was a passionate learner and earned a degree in teaching mathematics and physics from Charles University in June 1969. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to Westminster, England, where she embarked on a new chapter of her life. On October 25, 1969, Dagmar exchanged vows with the love of her life, Mikulas Pstross. Shortly after, in January 1970, they decided that the political situation in Czechoslovakia was too volatile and they immigrated to Canada, where they welcomed the joy of their son's birth that same year.
Despite facing a severe stroke in her mid-20s, Dagmar remained resilient and stayed with family until her late 30’s when she moved to St. Vincent hospital and then subsequently to St. Patrick’s nursing home.
Dagmar had a love for music and pop culture. She had a great sense of humour and loved the great outdoors, especially during the autumn months when the leaves changed colours in the Gatineau Hills. She will be missed.
Tremendous and heartfelt thanks to all of the hospital staff at St. Vincent’s Hospital and St. Patrick’s nursing home, who took care of Dagmar for over 40 years. The care and empathy displayed on a daily basis by everyone from social workers, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, nutritionists, people who check you in at the front desk was an incredible help during Dagmar's journey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday October 16, 2023 Grace United Church, 537 Rte. 105, Chelsea, Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
