Daniel Tolly Moore, passed away peacefully on 21 December 2023. He is survived by his four children, and eight grandchildren.
Daniel was born in South Africa in 1934. Having overcome numerous challenges in his early life as he spent his formative years in Pretoria before moving to Johannesburg in his late 20’s. His passion for accounting, an avid supporter of sports and hard working approach to everything to which he applied himself, may have also contributed to his decision to move to the bustling city of Johannesburg. It was these values that he bestowed on his children and those in his presence.
Dan, as his wife of 23 years and some close friends referred to him (his other close friends called him Tolly), decided to move his wife and son to Swaziland (Eswatini) in 1972. This was prompted by his desire to advance himself and give his children the best chance in life without the restrictions that Apartheid put on nonwhite people in South Africa. Many would say that he achieved his greatest goals in his adopted land – built an enormous family home, started numerous businesses and was sought after for council in this regard.
However, there was obviously more that he wanted in life which led him to Canada in 1987. It is here that he may have reached his total emotional satisfaction and life happiness. Despite having further draw backs, Daniel would eventually pass away in this country that he was very proud of calling his home.
Morior Invictus (Death before defeat)
Daniel has fought through much adversity in his life. His last battle, suffering a debilitating stroke in 2017, which left him wheelchair bound and unable to speak. Yet his fighting spirit, faith and undying sense of humour kept him strong, even through Covid.
But, less than one year shy of his 90th birthday, we say good bye, rest well, dad, granddad, brother, cousin and friend.
