Danny Cunningham

June 15, 1966 — January 11, 2015

Cunningham, Danny

Danny left us peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Ajax-Pickering Hospital. He was 48 years old. Present were siblings, his Christian Horizons' family, and the doctors and nurses who looked after him. The room was filled with love. Mom and Dad (Louise and Walter), and his sister, Theresa, greeted him with open arms in heaven. Missing Danny are his siblings Ron, Marilyn Burns, Rita Martin (Dougal), Susan (Terrry Hart), and Mark. He also leaves nephews: Tim and Dougal; and nieces: Cheryl Smith (Dylan), Cyndi, Jodi (Dan Boucher)and Caitlin; and a great nephew and niece: Isabel and Jacob Boucher.

The family is deeply grateful for the love and care he received as a Christian Horizons' resident for many years, and for their unwavering support when he got ill. Danny never spoke a word his whole life, but he taught us all about acceptance and perseverance. He had the biggest laugh when he was happy! We know that he is eating his favourite foods in heaven: hot dogs, cheesies, cheese and crackers; and drinking lots of coffee and pop.

We are also thankful for the care he received for 16 days from the fantastic staff in the ICU. In addition, we are indebted to the team at Trillium Organ Donation. All of these professionals smoothed a very rough road, and picked us up when we stumbled. Danny's gifts have now gone on to help others live: a fitting legacy for one who had so many difficulties, and lived life so fully. God speed baby brother.

We will celebrate his life at Maranatha Christian Reform Church, 2805 Hwy. #2 , Bowmanville, on Jan. 19 at 10:30 am. He will be cremated and buried, at a later date, with his family members in Resurrection Cemetery in Whitby. Donations in Danny's memory may be made to Christian Horizons, Rouge Valley Ajax-Pickering Hospital, or Trillium Gift of Life Network.
