David Norman Knight

December 16, 1975 — December 9, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that our family announces that David Norman Knight passed away suddenly and peacefully following a long and hard-fought battle with multiple medical conditions on December 9, 2022, at age 46, in Ottawa, Canada.

Born December 16th, 1975, in Ottawa, Canada, Dave attended D. Roy Kennedy Public School and Nepean High School. A naturally gifted communicator, Dave contributed his professional design skills to both the private and government sectors. Dave’s happy-go-lucky, kind demeanour came across readily, and he touched the lives of all who knew him in ways great and small. His big bear hugs and sweet smile could instantly uplift in difficult moments, while his insightful and quirky brand of humour, which included creative gift giving, always left friends and family laughing. He had a passion for writing and his emotive, insightful prose inspired many. He enjoyed having philosophical debates and camping with his brothers and friends. Dave was a loving and well-loved man and will be sorely missed by many.

Dave’s brave character and abiding love for his late wife, Erinn, shone during her battle with cancer, when Dave was her constant pillar of support. Dave loved being with their son, Jameson, his “little man” whom he adored deeply. In the year before his passing he was gradually refining a tattoo design inspired by Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, symbolizing himself, Erinn, and Jameson, to commemorate their undying bond and his optimism even in the face of darkness. Dave once wrote "I want my son, who is my entire world, to know all the different facets of his father, and to know with great certainty that I have had a wonderfully full life with many tremendous experiences (many of them simply due to the blessing of being a father, and a husband) that many never have the fortune to experience."

Dave is predeceased by the love of his life, Erinn Cummins, and survived by their beloved son, Jameson Knight. He is also survived by his father, Eric Knight of Ottawa; his mother, Christine Macdonald, Ottawa; his stepmother, Vivianne Puga, Ottawa; his brothers, Daniel (Tamara) of Vernon, British Columbia; Paul (Suzanne), Ottawa; and his stepbrothers, Nicolas Bruzzone (Stephanie), Ottawa; and Victor Bruzzone (Michelle) of Toronto, Ontario. He leaves behind his uncles, Andy Macdonald of Ottawa and John Macdonald of Lethbridge, Alberta; and aunt, Judy Knight of Toronto, Ontario; mother-in-law, Linda Quevillon (Robert), of Bracebridge, Ontario; and father-in-law, Anthony Cummins (Debra), of San Diego, California. Also mourning the deceased are cousins Carley Wilson (Conan), Adam Pinn, Julie Macdonald, Graham Macdonald (Katrina), Suzanne Foldes-Busque (Jerome), Stephen Macdonald (Maia), Holly Shepherd, Amy Bittman , Guy Berthelet (Mireille), and their children. He also leaves behind nephew Ephraim Knight of Ottawa, niece Sophia Bruzzone, and nephew Theodore Bruzzone of Ottawa. He is also fondly remembered by friends Steve and Carol Coppola, Marc Sebag, Dean Smith and Andrea Kovas, Roy Toffanello, Susan Lavergne (Barlow), Lynne and Charlie King, David Potter, Lynn McCallister and Heather Bagg as well as friends, colleagues, and neighbours too numerous to mention. Dave was also predeceased by grandparents Norman and Toba Knight and Cy and Helen Macdonald.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be provided to Jameson Knight Education Trust, c/o Dr. Eric Knight, 239 Dovercourt Ave., Ottawa, ON, Canada, K1Z 7H3.

“Not even the best things in life last forever, so savour them. Eat ’em up, and love what you’ve got while you’ve got it. And even when things are bad – enjoy the good. There’s almost always a bit of good waiting for you in there somewhere.” -Dave
