David Allison Laird

It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to David Allison Laird P. Eng. On November 30 2021 David passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home in Whitby, ON. His Loving wife of 47 years, Carol and daughter Logan at his side . He is predeceased by his Father David Laird, Mother Alice Laird, brother James Laird, and Niece Margo. He will be fondly missed by his younger brothers Bruce & Rob Laird, his sister Cathy Younger-Lewis, their partners, many nieces & nephews and extended family whom he all loved very much. He and Carol have always had great friends and neighbours, he always spoke highly of them with appreciation.
He was born August 2 1942 in Fort William, On.  He had warm memories of his childhood,  excelled in his schooling, and graduated top of his class from Carlton University in 1965 to become a very successful and respected Civil Engineer. Immediately after graduation he was hired by Robert Halsall & Associates, now one of the most well known firms of Structural Engineers in Toronto. He remained with Halsall for his 52 year career until retirement in 2012. This would become his second home. He loved his job. He had great respect and admiration for his co-workers and employers. His was dedicated to his work.
Travelling with Carol, was his favourite pastime outside of work. Puerto Vallarta, New Orleans and the Panama Canal were some of his favourite destinations only to name a few. His interests included Science, Politics and Archeology. He enjoyed reading, listening to his radio and watching his favourite shows with wife Carol. He was a warm and supportive husband and his patience, understanding and gentle nature made him a great Father. He meant the world to Logan. Intelligent, kind, teacher, and mentor would best describe him by those who knew and loved him. He truly was a gentleman, in every sense of the word. His memory will live on through us and he will be greatly missed.

His family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the healthcare members who took such great care of him over the years. A special thank you to Dr Imre Fejer and Dr. Jason Berstein. You went above and beyond in the care you provided to David, it will not be forgotten.
