Declan Cranley

February 17, 1999 — July 7, 2022

Ottawa

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Declan Thomas Cranley, our beloved son and brother has passed away at the age of 23, of complications from his epilepsy. He packed 5 lifetimes into those years.

Declan will be missed for his infectious laugh, always at the centre of a good time. He was a curious soul, soaking up knowledge from all corners of the web. He had a mind for the most abstract trivia, never visited a museum he didn’t like and never stopped asking questions. His enthusiasms for hockey, history, politics and film were enormous and he generously shared them with all. Declan enjoyed many adventures living in South East Asia and we know his love of travel and new cultures would have continued.

He was Mr. Christmas, donning a Santa hat each year as soon as he could get away with it. He loved Will Ferrell movies, the Leafs, teasing his father, Harry Potter, an eclectic mix of music, and guacamole.

We are thankful of the extra time together as a family over the past few years during COVID lock downs and quarantining in Ireland, building warm memories that will comfort our hearts for the rest of our lives.

Declan is survived by his mother Buffy, father Mark and his brother/best friend Aidan.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Epilepsy Canada at epilepsy.ca

A small family memorial will be held between 5 and 8 PM, Thursday July 21, at the Mill Creek Restaurant, Orangeville, where both Declan and Aidan spent a summer working together in the kitchen. A book to capture memories will be available or please send your thoughts, funny stories or pictures to buffyduke@outlook.com, to be inserted on your behalf.
