Diane Elizabeth Warren

November 19, 1952 — July 10, 2016

Diane Elizabeth Warren (nee Barkman) passed away peacefully on Sunday July 10, 2016 at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington. She was surrounded by her mother, Mabel Barkman (in her 96th year), her husband Don, and her two sons Tom and James.

She will be remembered as a loving Grandma by Paisley and Colby, (Tom and wife Katie) and desperately fought to be there for her future granddaughter, (James and Indra). Paisley has offered to teach her future cousin all about Grandma, while Diane watches from heaven.

Diane was born in St. John, New Brunswick in 1952, to Walter (1923-2009) and Mabel Barkman. She was younger sister to Nick (wife Diane), older sister to Randy (wife Jenny) and Ellen (husband Stephen). Diane was a cherished Aunt to Aiden, Claire, Ryan and Tianna. She was loved by her many cousins and their children.

From an early age Diane knew she wanted to be a teacher. After attending York University, she went to Lakeshore Teachers College in 1972, where her love story began. She was married in 1973. Diane taught in the Halton District School Board at J.M. Denyes P.S., Wrigglesworth P.S., Sam Sherratt P.S., Brookville P.S. and retired from Joseph Gibbons P.S. in 2007.

She was a voracious reader and had a wealth of knowledge of poetry, songs, lyrics and games. When asked, she could recite a poem, suggest a song or a book for any theme or special occasion. She also wrote many journals. From her last journal, she wrote about the things that she would miss: "Family, friends, humans, sunrises, sunsets, stars, big water, kittens, puppies, smell of fresh ground coffee, baby laughter, summer rain, books, reading, Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, dresses that fit perfectly, real pizzas, parks, my bike, spring, chirping birds, good movies, happy endings, hot buttered toast, picking strawberries, wild fruits, twilight, people visiting."

Diane was cremated in the presence of her immediate family and dear friends, Bishop Charlie Masters and wife Judy on July 13. There will be a celebration of life in the Villages of Brantwell in Burlington on Saturday July 16 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Family funeral in the church where she was married will take place at a later date. She will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Diane's memory to Carpenter Hospice. Online at https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/13666 or by phone at 1-905-631-9994 ext. 115.
