We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Dieter, also known to us as Papi, Opa and Tato. He was surrounded by loved ones as he slipped away on Nov. 2nd, 2024, at the Gatineau hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lola Lopez, who lovingly took care of him in his advanced stages of dementia and by his daughter Ingrid Bauer. He leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Kieran Bauer-Beazer, Eloise Bauer-Beazer, Andreas Bauer-Beazer and Anika Bauer-Beazer. He is also dearly missed by his beloved niece Julia Herrera (Jose Vergara) and their children Adriana and Julian and his cherished brother-in-law Victor Herrera.
Dieter Klaus Bauer was born on September 28th, 1934, in Berlin, Germany to Gertrud Haupt and Hans Bauer and is predeceased by his sister Helga Willmann (Bauer) and his sister-in law Julia E. Herrera. Dieter immigrated to Canada in 1956 in search of adventure. He often recounted to his daughter, grandchildren, and niece all the many experiences he had while travelling on his motorbike across the American continent, his encounters with wildlife and his exploration of lesser-known places. Dieter spoke four languages (German, English, Spanish and French), was a voracious reader, loved history and geography and was often seen studying maps. Our beloved Dieter was a man of service. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was especially adept in serving others through his craftsmanship skills.
You will be sorely missed mi querido marido, lieber Papi, dear Opa, mi Tato. Your gentle smile and intellect and example of goodness, service and hard work will be forever etched in our hearts.
A private visitation for close family and friends will be held on Nov. 8th, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints followed by a graveside service at the Sainte-Rose-de-Lima cemetery in Gatineau.
To pay tribute to Dieter’s love of trees, in lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Plant A Tree in memoriam instead.
