January 12, 1954 – July 13, 2020 (age 66)

It is with tremendous sadness to announce the passing of Donald William (Don) Jackson of Oshawa, Ontario on July 13, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Don passed away at home, surrounded by family and friends.

Don leaves behind his wife of 30 years Lydia Jackson (nee Alessi) and his two children Christina and Donny. He was the son of the late Leonard William Jackson and the late Violet Rose Jackson (Linton).

Don was passionate about his radio program Lovers and Other Strangers, which he developed over his 40 year career as a Radio Announcer on radio stations in Montreal, Quebec (CFQR) and Toronto, Ontario (CHFI). He strived for perfection in every script, every music selection and every poem or writing that he produced, so that he could make a difference in someone’s life through the words and music in his nightly broadcasts. As passionate as he was about his career, nothing ever replaced the love he had for his children and family.

Don was a talented drummer during his teenage years, an avid SciFi reader, was fascinated by trains and had an insatiable curiosity about the Universe. These were always common topics of discussion between him and his friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Graham of Lakeridge Health Oshawa for his compassionate care as well as all the nurses and PSWs who made Don’s last few weeks as comfortable as possible. A special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ronn Young for his kindness and friendship and to Dr. Albert Iarz for his continued support in all things naturopathic.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
