Doreen Hazel Lavigne (nee McIvor) went to be with God, Rick and Dad on February 2, 2021, in her 80th year, surrounded by loving family in her daughter’s home.
She was family oriented, generous and thoughtful, with an adventurous spirit, contagious laugh and was a connoisseur of black Twizzlers.
Loving wife of 39 years to John Burnel (2005), daughter of Hilda and Charlie McIvor, and best Mammasita to Rick (1997), Tara (Rick) and Todd. Cherished and devoted Grammasita, Grams to Ryan, Ethan, Sierra, Madison and Jaxon. Beloved Sister to Jim (Julie), Jan and Lee. Doreen also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and other extended family across the country, as well as a special friend Colin.
Doreen was the Executive Director of the Haldimand Norfolk Literacy Council for many years. Her legacy lives on through the Doreen Lavigne Executive Director Award given to someone who possesses the characteristics that she exemplified: hardworking, dedicated, family oriented, generous, humble.
Doreen had a strong passion for family first and foremost, and was also interested in music and travel, especially Mexico, where she spent 21 winters in blissful sunshine, often with many members of her family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Doreen can be made to the Haldimand Norfolk Literacy Council.
