Doreen Lila Murdy

September 13, 1947 — November 21, 2019

On Thursday, November 21st, Doreen Lila Murdy (Ryder), loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 72.

Doreen was born September 13, 1947 in Toronto.  She often spoke fondly of growing up on Murrie Street in Mimico.  It was there she met her dear lifelong friend, Cindy Skinner (Buffy Thomas).  Best friends since they were children, they were ecstatic as they watched a friendship form between their two daughters.  This friendship continues to this day.  Sadly, Doreen was predeceased by Cindy several years earlier.

In 1965, after a whirlwind courtship, Doreen was wed to Henry Murdy.  Their marriage produced two children, Cindy and Joe.  Doreen was a proud mother and could often be heard touting the praises of her children to all that would listen.  Even though Doreen and Henry’s marriage only lasted 12 years, the love she felt for Henry lasted the remainder of her life.

Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her 3 grandchildren, Ashley, Nicole and Sarah.  They were the light of her life.  The love she felt for them knew no bounds.  She would’ve fought the devil, himself, to protect those girls.  In the last couple years of her life, Doreen became a great-grandmother to Ella, who quickly became the apple of her eye.  While in the hospital, she could always be counted on to show anyone and everyone, pictures of Ella and could be heard singing Ella’s praises to all.  In the last few months she became a great-grandmother for the second time, to Emma.  We now have an angel watching over us.

Doreen was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Mitchell, and her father, Roy Ryder.  She is survived by her two children, Cindy Byers (Mark) and Joseph Murdy, her 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, her sister Laurie Brady, nieces, Tracy, Chrissy and Amanda and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.

Memorial Service to be held Wednesday, February 12th at 11:00 am at St. John’s Dixie (Oak Room) located at 737 Dundas Street East in Mississauga followed immediately by a reception at the same location.  Internment will be at Glen Oaks Cemetery located at 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville.
