Dorothy Joan Gordon (nee Steane)

March 28, 1932 — July 5, 2024

Dorothy Joan Gordon nee Steane, a committed and cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away quietly at home, with loved ones by her side, on July 5, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in Toronto on March 28, 1932 to Edward and Louise (Jean) Steane, Dorothy was the youngest of 3 children.

In her earlier years, Dorothy was a keen bowler, great baker, talented cross-stitcher and amazing knitter - often gifting family and friends with cherished handmade items - this was her way of sharing long lasting warmth and kindness. Mum’s hands were always busy, teaching her daughters that being industrious and sharing your time, efforts and charity were at our core, our obligation. A humble yet profound legacy which we will honour and carry on. Always a skilled euchre and cribbage player, she spent many afternoons teaching her children and grandchildren cribbage - how to “peg and count.”

Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years Kenneth, daughters Judith, Nancy (David) and Darlene (Wayne), grandchildren Julie, Karen, Sarah, James, Andrew, Jack and Ian, along with 8 great-grandchildren.

It gives us great peace and comfort to know our mother is with her Saviour; a Celebration of Life service will be held at the Salvation of Army Citadel, 151 Lillian Cres., Barrie, on Saturday, August 10th at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
