After a wonderful 97 years, Dorothy van Kralingen died peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital on April 13, 2014. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband William, and is survived by her daughter Joan (John Ford) and granddaughter Julia.
Born in the Beaches in 1916 the youngest to William and Violet Hewitt, Dorothy grew up with her older brothers Albert and John in Scarborough, and lived most of her adult life on Willow Avenue in the Beaches.
Dorothy was a wonderful aunt to Joan Martin, Shelagh Hewitt-Kareda, Pat Cooper (deceased), Steven Hewitt, and Suzanne Matheson, and their families. She will also be missed by the children of William's late son Bill van Kralingen and his wife Louise: Michele Armstrong, John, Guy, and Marc and their families.
She fulfilled her dream of going to university as a senior, and we were all thrilled to cheer her on when she graduated from York in 1989. She was much loved by her family, friends, neighbours, and the community at Kew Beach United Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.
A memorial service will be held at Beach United Church, 140 Wineva Ave, Toronto, on Saturday April 26th. Visitation will be from 2-3, the service at 3:00, with refreshments to follow.
