Dorothy, while raising her 2 kids, help raised 21 foster kids. She worked as a bookkeeper at many different organizations including Chelsey Park Nursing Home and Erin Mills Lodge. Upon retiring to Guysborough, NS with her husband (William Pelly d. 2012) she joined many clubs including Guysborough County Older Adult Games and Guysborough TOPS bowling league. Born Baptist, she later converted to Presbyterian and attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church and taught Sunday school for 10 years. After moving to Guysborough, she joined the Sunnyville United Baptist Church in 1987 and became a teacher/ clerk and deacon. In 1996, she transferred to Boylston United Baptist Church where she was treasurer, clerk and deacon. Her faith and religious beliefs were very important to her.
Dorothy was a creative soul. She spent her days cross stitching, knitting, crocheting and sewing. In her later years, she began making cards for friends and enjoyed scrapbooking. Her love for God, her family, and her friends never dwindled. She has said that everyone she met in her life filled a special place in her heart, she was glad she did not miss the chance of knowing everyone she knew. She wanted her family and friends to remember her for her unconditional love for them.
Surviving are her daughter, Dianna Kentfield (Lawrence Kentfield); brother Glen Rice; Her grandchildren: William Kentfield, Jennifer (Kentfield) Ribau, Christopher Kentfield. She was predeceased by her daughter, Katherine May “Kitty”; her husband, William; brothers Robert, Franklin, and Douglas; sisters Winnifred, Eleanor, and Marjorie.
