Douglas Grant Cameron , 86, of Kitchener, passed away on January 10th, 2024 at Main Street Terrace long term care facility in Toronto.
Douglas was born on January 5th, 1938 to Robert and Christina Cameron in East York (now Toronto).
In 1960 he met his future wife Maureen, and they were married in 1962. Douglas and Maureen went on to have two sons, Timothy and Mark. He was also a loving grandfather to Alexander, Vaughan, Ella, and Janessa.
His lifelong talent for visual art found him employed briefly at Rapid Grip in Toronto in his early 20’s, followed by a much lengthier stint at TDF Artists Ltd in Toronto, where his work in the commercial art field was well known and respected throughout the industry in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.
After deciding city life wasn’t for him, his work as a graphic artist continued in various forms outside Toronto, leading to work at sign shops in Orillia, Calgary, Windsor, Kitchener, and Owen Sound, with the family in tow on the ongoing “blue collar bohemian lifestyle” adventure. In his retirement he added a third dimension to his love of art when he developed a passion for wood carving, which he continued well into his final months.
A memorial is planned for Douglas in the spring and we will notify friends and family.
