Edward "Baggo” Roy Blakley passed away, peacefully in his home, on August 28th after a brave fight against cancer.
Baggo was a proud member of the 48th Highlanders beginning his career as a cadet in September 1981 and finishing his service as a Corporal in the Reserves in October 1996. Throughout his life, Ed was known for the multitude of relationships he created and for the long-lasting bonds that were formed. The connections that he made with people were such an important part of his life. With his arms consistently open as well as his huge heart, Baggo made an impression on everyone he met, including animals. His late dog Bennie, and every other animal that he came across, always received that extra pet and lots of love as he repaid the joy that they made him feel.
Ed’s creativity, his curiosity and his desire to help people gave him a zest for life and a genuinely positive outlook that was evident upon first meeting him.
Ed leaves behind; his wife Bonnie, daughter Julie and grandsons Tristan and Oliver, his stepsons and their families; David and wife Sarah, Patrick and wife Stéphanie and grandson Remington, Jonathan and fiancé Jenna, mother Carol, sister Nora and nieces Stephanie and Samantha, and brother Russell and wife Sulpicia.
The family would like to thank the nurses at V.O.N, doctors, nurses and support staff at Trillium Hospital’s Oncology and Radiation Departments, the doctors and support staff at Dorothy Ley Hospice and finally all their friends who visited and comforted them during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held:
Friday, August 31st from 12:00 - 1:00pm at Forest Lawn Mausoleum and Crematorium Chapel (4570 Yonge Street, Toronto)
Following the visitation the family invites everyone to share stories and memories at the Goose and Firkin, 1875 Leslie Street, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, Ed would have preferred a donation to your local animal shelter.
