It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ted on July 15, 2021, at home in Orleans, Ontario. He will be greatly missed by his wife Louise (amicably separated); daughter Cindy (Kevin) Pratt; son David (Leigh Tronsgard) Thompson; grandchildren Samuel, Hatton, Olin, Holland, Campbell; sister Donna of Guelph, Ontario; brother Jack (Jana) of Sherwood Park, Alberta. He leaves behind cherished family and friends in Ontario and Alberta. Ted's absence will also be felt by the staff and fellow residents at Symphony Senior Living Orleans.
Ted was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Lilian May and George Henry Thompson. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara (Brian) Vaughan.
Ted was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Armed Forces for 30 years and spent another 22 years serving with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.
Ted was a skilled outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Whether a marksman, a fisherman, a baseball pitcher, or a dad chasing a couple of guys trying to steal his car while on a family vacation, his athleticism was apparent. Ted was also an avid family historian, craftsman and artist.
Although Ted could strike up a conversation with anyone he was happy to maintain a small circle of lifelong friends. He was the type of dad who actively participated in his kids' school and extracurricular activities and the type of grandpa who made his grandkids laugh with jokes and bathroom humour. He always showed up, no matter what. His love for his family and friends was undeniable.
In later life, he faced the challenges of COPD and lung cancer with a tenacious spirit and will to survive. He was tough and strong and never complained, regardless of his circumstances. Under his sometimes gruff exterior was a kind and genuine soul. He was as generous as he was strong-willed. He lived out his days fiercely loving his family and uplifting those around him with his charm and wit.
To respect Ted's wishes, cremation has taken place, and Cindy and Dave will each be planting a fruit tree to honour their dad's memory.
With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Ted, Dad, Grandpa.
