In Loving Memory of Edwin Muliamartana

Edwin Muliamartana (Tjheng Kian Bo), 89, passed away at Credit Valley hospital in Canada on April 28, 2023. He was born in Ciamis, Indonesia, on June 29, 1933. He studied medicine in University of Airlangga in Surabaya, where he met his wife Nur Dewi (Tjioe Tjiok Nio) and they were married on April 28, 1961.

He worked in Tasikmalaya as a government doctor at Tasikmalaya Public Health Agency (specializing in malaria), and he also opened his own medical practice with his wife. After his wife died in 1991, he retired to Bandung.

He came to Canada in May 2015, sponsored by daughter Elisabeth and son-in-law Hugo, and later became a Permanent Resident in 2017.

He is survived by three daughters, Evy, Carolin, Elisabeth and her husband Hugo; three grandchildren, Alvin, Emilio, Stephanie; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.

His favourite pastimes were reading, writing a travel journal, sewing, and watching Chinese TV. His favourite foods were Shanghai noodle and soy sauce chicken. When he was retired in Indonesia, he enjoyed traveling to many countries, especially China. He spoke Mandarin, English, Bahasa Indonesia, and Sundanesse.

Elisabeth’s family held a memorial mass on May 6, 2023 at Merciful Redeemer parish.  His last wishes were to have his ashes spread to the ocean, hence Elisabeth’s family traveled to Halifax to spread his ashes in the Atlantic Ocean.
