“I know why you always told me to be strong. You knew that on day I would need the strength to bear your loss.” GH
It is the honour of her husband Angel and her children Fernanda, Eduardo and Diana to tell you about the exceptional woman we were lucky enough to call “Wife & Mother.”
Elvia Caceres was born on April 20th, 1945 in Azogues- Ecuador, where she spent her early years with family and close friends. She graduated as a seamstress and married Angel Caceres on Sep.13th 1969 at the age of 24. Soon after their wedding they embarked in a life changing experience by travelling to Toronto-Canada, a trip that was supposed to last 1 year turned into the place she called home.
It will be impossible to move on from the memory of losing a woman who sacrificed her own happiness so that her children could have a better life. As her husband and son, we always had the unconditional support of a strong woman. As her daughters we were led by example to never let anything get in the way of our goals. Her determination, eagerness and work ethic were unmatched, so much that she earned a her PSW certification in her 50’s. Although she was goal oriented, she was never one to waste an opportunity to socialize, help her friends or be a shoulder to cry on. Our close friends share stories of how she helped them throughout their biggest challenges, always playing the role of big sister.
‘Happiness for all’ was always her motto.
Diagnosed with liver cirrhosis in 2012, she was once again determined to not let his hiccup slow her down or deter her from living life. She fought a hard battle and was able to gain 11 years on an opponent that threatened to take her life in less than 5. One of her biggest weaknesses was food, boy did she have a sweet tooth, salty tooth and everything in between. Up until her last weeks of life she demanded her “golosinas” and made us get her: hornado, tamales, chicharron, seafood linguine, apple pie, strawberry sundaes and gelato.
She was a private woman, never wanted to worry those around her, rarely asking for help. It may come as no surprise that she wished to keep her illness quiet. As her cirrhosis progressed, she always managed to keep a strong face and a stubborn stance on her physical capabilities. She wanted you all to remember her as she was; happy, full of life, strong willed and the person to always lean on.
