It is with deep sadness that we announce that Emil Müller passed away on November 4th, 2024, at the age of 89, in Ottawa, Ontario.
Thanks to his work with the International Federation of Body Building (IFBB) and the help of Ben Weider, Emil came to Canada in 1969, shortly after marrying his beloved wife, Alice. He spent the majority of his career in Canada teaching physical education at Champlain College in St. Lambert, Quebec. Throughout his teaching career he helped countless youth learn about and improve their knowledge of fitness and strength training through his development of personal training programs in the Champlain College weight room, named in his honor. Emil also coached track and field at Chambly County High School, and individual throwers in the Montreal area. After many years of coaching, he decided to become a hammer throwing athlete himself in the Masters division, where he broke over 57 Canadian records. Emil participated in many Masters World Championships, where he won several medals in hammer throwing and weight throw, including a gold medal in Australia in 2001.
Emil not only loved sports but was a wonderful musician. He learned to play the piano as a child, and taught himself to play the guitar, and as a retirement challenge, he started to play the cello. He loved hearing his granddaughters play music or sing and encouraged them to keep going.
Emil loved life; and always chose to keep a positive mindset about the world and life, which was contagious. He always brought smiles, jokes and a joyful outlook, no matter where he was.
Emil was, above all, a family man, who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. Emil leaves behind his wife Alice, daughters Nathalie and Barbara (Pema), grandchildren Zoé, Sophia, Nissa and Émilie; his sister Vlasta Hurych, and brother Milan Müller.
There will be no formal reception or funeral. His wishes were for a private family gathering. We welcome everyone to share pictures and anecdotes or stories, which will help with the healing process.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Emil Müller Memorial Fund (https://everloved.com/life-of/emil-muller/) which will help aspiring track and field throwers, will be greatly appreciated.
