Eugene Walter Dollery
June 21, 1929 – December 12, 2021
Gene passed peacefully at 92 years old on December 12, 2021 in Bowmanville.
Gene loved to make you laugh and was always very humorous. He was very proud of himself and the rest of his family. He was known for being very stubborn which led to the nickname Mean Gene that he was quite proud of. Gene was also very passionate, courageous, intelligent, and confident.
Gene bought his first dump truck at age 18 and bought his second not long after and hired his longtime friend Doug Kennedy. He also spent time as a framer in the construction industry. Gene later worked at De Havilland for over 25 years starting in the spray paint department and working his way up to supervisor, until his retirement. After about 15 years his entrepreneur skills came out again when he left De Havilland and opened his own aircraft refinishing business for a few years working on paint, plastics and upholstery. After this, Gene drove a truck for Shell Oil for about 5 years before returning to DH/Boeing until his retirement.
Gene loved golf and spending the winters in Florida so he could play year-round. If he wasn’t playing golf, he could be found on the couch watching golf with his many beloved dogs. Gene also enjoyed spending time out on the water in one of many boats, listening to country music. He also loved to play cards, especially Euchre but only if you scored with the two and three cards. Gene loved to win.
Gene is the beloved husband of Shirley, father of Gary (Cheryl), Glenn (Deb), Step-Father to Valerie (Rick) and Kimberly. Grandfather to Shannon, Heather, Tiffany, Laine, Brandon, Michael and many great grandchildren. Gone before him are his brother Sonny (Lawrence), first wife Olive, and son in-law Bob (Kim).
We thank all of the staff at Glen Hill Strathaven in Bowmanville for their care and support over the past few years.
Gene will be buried in the spring at Prospect Cemetery in the Dollery family plot where both of his parents and brother are currently resting.
